Modern Oljefärg is a new generation of waterborne alkyd oil paint. The new way to paint exterior woodwork comprises a system of base oil, primer and topcoat. The new waterborne system can be used on unpainted or previously painted exterior wood surfaces, including those previously painted with conventional alkyd oil paints.

The goal of the Swan system – the official ecolabel for the Nordic countries – is to create a sustainable society in which we all choose and use the most environmentally-friendly products. The Swan ecolabel is managed by a non-profit corporation that has been commissioned by the Nordic Council of Ministers, an intergovernmental forum for co-operation between the Nordic countries. The Swan organisation checks products meet the highest standards through testing by independent laboratories, certification and inspection. The label is usually valid for three years, after which the criteria for ecolabelling are gradually made stricter and the company is required to apply for the label again. This system guarantees the development of more environmentally friendly products. Bestå Täckfärg by Alcro carries the Swan Label

Premium paint brand Fired Earth has turned to metal packaging multinational Impress, based in Norwich, to provide lightweight cans for its new range of emulsion paints. The brand is to sell the National Trust range in Impress’ Ringo can, a new development which contains 10% less metal than standard paint cans. Fired Earth spokesman Nigel Dyer said that the ease of opening and closing the can was a key factor, alongside the reduction in weight. “The saving in packaging content allows us to demonstrate to our customers that we are genuinely looking at ways to meet the challenges of social responsibility.”
